Strategic Priorities
Based upon what people said they wanted, what out research shows and other influences outlined above, the following strategic priorities have been identified:
- To reduce the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour that affect the quality of people’s lives
- To increase the engagement of young people who are currently offending or at risk of offending
- To tackle the problem of the relatively small number of prolific and other priority offenders who are responsible for a large proportion of crimes committed
- To tackle the problem of violent crime and harassment
- To reduce the levels of burglary of homes and vehicle-related crime
Contribution to Community Cohesion
Community cohesion issues are addressed by the Safe and Secure Luton theme through ensuring that:
- All key stakeholders are represented on the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership
- The Crime & Disorder Strategy document is placed on the website for wider circulation within the community
- All community groups are consulted on Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategies to strengthen the sense of belonging and cohesion
- Communities are aware of information on Anti Social Behaviour Orders
- Crime prevention news is widely distributed throughout Luton in particularly in the most deprived wards
- There is a focus on helping people with drug problems, as many crimes are drug-relate
