Vision

The long term vision for the Strategic Partnership shall be that:

1. Children and young people can grow up as healthy well balanced individuals;

2. Children and families can live in safe secure communities, protected from abuse, harassment, exploitation and neglect;

3. That children enjoy growing up in Luton and that they are enabled to achieve their full potential;

4. That children, young people and their families are invloved with the development of services and are encouraged to make a positive contribution to society;

5. That all services contribute to the stability of family life economically, socially and emotionally.

 

What People Said They Wanted

  • More and better GCSE results
  • All 18 year olds in education, training or jobs
  • Better re-training and re-skilling for redundant workers
  • Greater focus on updating the skills of employed people
  • Training which is more relevant to the specific employment needs of the town
  • Increased training provision for basic skills
  • More accessible learning facilities for all

Strategic Priorities

Based upon what people said they wanted, what out research shows and other influences outlined above, the following strategic priorities have been identified:

  • To contribute to reducing unemployment by developing and maintaining skills
  • To increase achievement, participation and retention in education and training amongst 11 to 19 year olds

Contribution to Community Cohesion

Community cohesion issues are addressed by the Learning and Skilled Luton theme through ensuring that:

  • More young people in Luton are in education, training or jobs
  • Learning facilities in Luton are accessible to all who want to learn
  • Training and employment opportunities are tailored to meet the specific needs of particular groups or sectors
  • Skill levels of employed and unemployed residents in Luton are increased
  • Young people in deprived areas are helped to overcome barriers to their progress
